Tandem Skydiving · No experience required

Your first jump, 30 minutes from Toronto.

Harnessed to a certified tandem instructor, you'll freefall over Lake Ontario and the Niagara Escarpment — then float under canopy for five minutes. Just 30 minutes of training stands between you and the exit door.

Tandem skydiving in Ontario

The easiest way to try skydiving.

A tandem skydive is the fastest, safest way to experience freefall for the first time. You're securely attached to a CSPA-certified tandem instructor who handles the exit, freefall, parachute deployment, and landing. All you do is enjoy the view — and it's a good one. Every jump at Skydive SWOOP overlooks Lake Ontario, the Toronto skyline, Hamilton, and the Niagara Escarpment.

Located in Dundas, we're the closest dropzone to Toronto and the GTA — about 60 minutes from downtown and 15 from Hamilton. That makes SWOOP the natural choice for a first tandem skydive near Toronto, Mississauga, Oakville, Burlington, and the wider Golden Horseshoe.

Tandem FAQ

Everything first-timers ask.

Is skydiving a safe sport?

Skydiving is safer than most people assume. Modern equipment includes a main parachute, a reserve parachute, and an automatic activation device (AAD) that deploys the reserve if needed. Tandem skydiving in particular has an excellent safety record because you're jumping with a highly experienced, certified instructor.

Is SWOOP a safe dropzone?

SWOOP has operated since 1979 and takes great pride in its safety record. We're a CSPA member dropzone, our gear is meticulously maintained, and our instructors are certified and current. Safety is the foundation everything else at the club is built on.

Will I be scared?

Most first-timers feel nervous on the climb — that's completely normal. Once you exit the aircraft, the fear tends to give way to pure exhilaration. Your instructor is with you the entire time, which makes the whole experience feel far more manageable than you'd expect.

But I'm afraid of heights!

Interestingly, most people who fear heights are fine skydiving. Fear of heights usually depends on being connected to the ground — on a ladder or a balcony. At jump altitude there's no such reference point, so that specific fear rarely kicks in.

What happens if the parachute doesn't open?

Every rig carries two parachutes — a main and a reserve — plus an automatic activation device that will deploy the reserve at a safe altitude if it senses the main hasn't been deployed. Reserve parachutes are inspected and repacked on a strict schedule by a certified rigger.

What is the safest way to do my first jump?

A tandem skydive is the safest and simplest way to experience freefall for the first time. You're attached to a certified tandem instructor who manages every part of the jump, so you can focus entirely on the experience.

What kind of parachute will we use?

Tandem jumps use large, dependable tandem canopies specifically designed to carry two people. They're rated and maintained to manufacturer standards for safe, controllable flight.

What should I wear?

Dress for the weather and wear comfortable, closed-toe athletic shoes (no sandals or boots with hooks). Avoid loose items. We'll provide a jumpsuit and all the gear you need over top of your clothes.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Skydiving is weather-dependent — we need acceptable wind, cloud, and visibility. If conditions aren't safe on your booking day, we reschedule at no charge. Always check in with us before making the drive.

Can I bring my own camera?

For safety, tandem students can't wear cameras — this is a CSPA regulation, as loose items and handheld devices create a hazard. Instead, add one of our media packages and let a professional capture your jump.

Can I get video and pictures?

Yes. Choose from three media packages: Hand-Cam ($159), Outside Video ($199), or the Rockstar package ($299) which combines both for the full edit. You'll get a digital download to share.

What payment do you accept?

You can book and pay online when you reserve your jump. Media packages and any add-ons can be added at booking or on the day.

Why is there a no-show fee?

A deposit and no-show fee protect the slot you've reserved. Aircraft time and instructor availability are limited, so a booked slot that goes unused can't be given to someone else on short notice. Reschedule in advance and there's no penalty.

Is my booking an appointment?

Your booking reserves your place for that day, but skydiving isn't a fixed appointment like a haircut — jump order depends on weather, aircraft loads, and conditions. Plan to spend a good part of the day at the dropzone.

How far in advance should I book?

Weekends and holidays fill up first, especially in peak summer, so booking around two weeks ahead is a good rule of thumb. Gift certificates can be redeemed for any available date in the season.

Is the dropzone open every day?

We operate seasonally, roughly late April through late October, and are busiest on weekends and holidays. Hours vary with the season and weather — check our schedule or get in touch before you visit.

What altitude do you jump from and how long is freefall?

We offer two tandem altitudes. Our 8,000 ft jump ($359) gives you around 30 seconds of freefall, and our 11,000 ft jump ($369) gives you around 45 seconds. Both are followed by a canopy ride of about five minutes.

Why not jump higher?

Altitude is governed by aircraft, oxygen requirements, and regulations. Our Full Altitude tandem gives you a long, memorable freefall well within safe operating limits — no supplemental oxygen or specialized aircraft required.

Are there age or weight restrictions?

You must be 18 or older with valid government photo ID. There are weight considerations for equipment safety: guests 220–250 lb incur a $75 surcharge, and over 250 lb a $150 surcharge. Weight must be proportionate to height for the harness to fit safely — get in touch if you have questions.
